Legendary San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich experienced a medical emergency on Tuesday evening while dining at a restaurant in San Antonio. According to reports from American media, Popovich suddenly lost consciousness and was promptly transported to a hospital. The incident occurred around 8:20 PM, with witnesses noting that the coach had been at the restaurant for about two hours before the episode.
After receiving medical attention, Popovich was discharged and is currently recovering at home in stable condition. This event follows a mild stroke he suffered in November of last year, which led him to miss the remainder of the season.
Due to ongoing health concerns, Popovich has decided to take a hiatus for the rest of the current season, with assistant coach Mitch Johnson stepping in to lead the team.
At 76, Popovich has been at the helm of the Spurs since 1996 and is regarded as one of the most successful coaches in NBA history. He has secured five championship titles, been named Coach of the Year three times, and is a Hall of Fame inductee. Additionally, he led the United States national team to a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
While currently recuperating at home, Popovich’s health remains under close observation, and basketball fans worldwide are hopeful for his swift and full recovery.
