Oscar Nominations Postponed

Due to the wildfires in Los Angeles, the Oscar nominations have been postponed to January 23.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has decided to postpone the announcement of this year’s Oscar nominations for a second time due to the devastating wildfires affecting Los Angeles. According to the organizers, the nominations for the 97th Academy Awards will now be revealed on January 23, instead of the previously scheduled date of January 17.

Extended Voting Period and Event Schedule Changes
Voting for the Academy’s nearly 10,000 members, which began on January 8, has been extended until January 17 to ensure members impacted by the fires can participate in the process. The virtual nomination announcement ceremony will take place on January 23 at 5:30 AM local time, without media attendance. Despite the schedule adjustments, the main Oscar ceremony remains set for Sunday, March 2, 2025, at the iconic Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

Additional Events Canceled or Postponed
The Academy announced that the traditional nominees’ luncheon, originally planned for February 10, will not take place. Additionally, the presentation of the Scientific and Technical Awards, initially scheduled for February 18, has been postponed indefinitely.

Solidarity and Community Support
“We are all deeply affected by the wildfires and the significant losses many in our community have endured,” said Academy CEO Bill Kramer and President Janet Yang. “The Academy remains committed to its role as a unifying force in the film industry, standing together in the face of these challenges.” As part of its relief efforts, the Academy has donated $750,000 to the Motion Picture & Television Fund to support industry members hardest hit by the disaster.

Impact of Wildfires on the Film Industry
The wildfires in Los Angeles have disrupted numerous premieres and events, forcing organizations across the city to adapt. Despite these challenges, the Academy emphasizes the importance of unity and solidarity during these trying times, as it prepares the film community for a celebratory recognition of cinematic achievements at the March ceremony.

The Oscars promise to honor the best in film and bring hope to an industry confronting unprecedented challenges.
