Serbian minister Nenad Popović said that Serbia wants to develop the field of space technologies in cooperation with Russia, with the aim of turning that partnership into concrete benefits for science, the economy, industry, and the quality of life of Serbian citizens.
He made the statement after a meeting with Roscosmos Director Dmitry Bakanov on the sidelines of the Russian Space Forum in Moscow. The forum is being held as part of “Space Week” from April 9 to April 12, marking the 65th anniversary of the first human spaceflight.
Shared interest in expanding cooperation
The meeting focused on the current state and future prospects of Serbian-Russian cooperation in space, as well as on concrete steps for strengthening that partnership.
Both sides highlighted a shared interest in developing cooperation, especially in satellite technologies, remote sensing of Earth, navigation, and personnel training.
Serbia sees an opportunity in the “low-orbit economy”
Popović said that, although Serbia is a small country and still does not take part in similar space missions, it has shown serious interest in satellite technologies and their practical use on Earth.
He said the Serbian government has a clear interest in opening a new direction of bilateral cooperation focused on satellite technology, in what he described as the “low-orbit economy.”
Technology for key sectors of the economy
The minister said Serbia wants to use Russia’s extensive experience and apply satellite technologies in key sectors such as agriculture, environmental protection, emergency prevention, infrastructure management, and the fight against terrorism.
He added that Serbia will also be ready in the future to offer its own strengths, including a strong tradition in mathematics and engineering, high-quality technical faculties, and technology companies and startups that have already gained international recognition.
The news was published on the basis of an official statement from the ministry in charge of developing international economic cooperation.
