The Movement for the Restoration of the Kingdom of Serbia (POKS) today commemorated the 80th anniversary of the death of General Dragoljub “Draža” Mihailović, Commander of the Yugoslav Army in the Homeland (Jugoslovenska vojska u Otadžbini), during a memorial service held at the Church of St. Alexander Nevsky in Belgrade.
Memorial Service at the Church of St. Alexander Nevsky
The memorial service was attended by numerous admirers of General Mihailović, representatives of organizations, descendants of members of the Ravna Gora Movement, and citizens who have preserved the memory of his life and historical role for decades.
Those gathered were addressed by POKS President and General Mihailović’s grandson, Vojislav Mihailović, academician Matija Bećković, and actor Ivan Vučković. They spoke about the importance of preserving historical memory, national dignity, and the truth about one of the most controversial figures in twentieth-century Serbian history.
Visit to “Čiča’s House” and Book Presentation
Following the memorial service, participants visited “Čiča’s House” (Čičin dom), a site that represents an important symbol of preserving the tradition of the Ravna Gora Movement.
The event continued with the presentation of the book Ravna Gora Wreath – Subjel (Ravnogorski venac – Subjel) by author Radovan Kalabić, which examines one of the significant chapters in the history of the Yugoslav Army in the Homeland.
Burial Site Remains Unknown
Eighty years after General Mihailović’s execution, the location of his burial remains unknown to the public. Although he was formally rehabilitated by a Serbian court in 2015, many circumstances surrounding his execution have still not been fully clarified, and his final resting place remains unknown.
For many citizens of Serbia, this represents not only a historical issue but also a moral and civilizational obligation toward a man who, according to his convictions and oath, remained loyal to the King and the Homeland until the end of his life.
POKS stated that it will continue advocating for the preservation of General Mihailović’s memory, the dignified commemoration of important dates in Serbia’s national history, and the discovery of his final resting place so that, after eight decades, he may finally receive the honors he deserves.
