Strong Season Opener for White Sox – Burke Shines in Dominant Win Over Angels

Chicago White Sox opened the 2025 MLB season with a dominant 8–1 win over the Angels, highlighted by Sean Burke’s stellar debut on the mound.

The Chicago White Sox kicked off the 2025 MLB season in style with a commanding 8–1 victory over the Los Angeles Angels at Guaranteed Rate Field on Thursday, March 27.

All eyes were on right-handed pitcher Sean Burke, who delivered an outstanding debut in his first career start. Over six scoreless innings, Burke allowed just three hits, issued three walks, and struck out three batters. With this performance, he became only the seventh pitcher since 1929 to start an MLB season with fewer than 20 career innings pitched.

Aggressive Offense, Solid Defense
The White Sox offense came out firing. In the second inning, Auston Slater launched a solo home run, followed by Miguel Vargas driving in two runs to extend the lead to 3–0.

The offensive onslaught continued in the eighth inning, highlighted by a three-run homer from Andrew Benintendi and a two-run shot from Lenyn Sosa, putting the game firmly out of reach.

On the defensive side, Burke retired the final 14 batters he faced. Relievers Mike Clevinger and Cam Busser closed out the game with minimal resistance. The Angels’ only run came in the ninth inning via a solo home run by Logan O’Hoppe.

A Bright Spot After a Tough Season
Following a difficult 2024 campaign that saw the White Sox lose 121 games, this dominant win brings a renewed sense of hope and excitement for fans.

The Sox will face the Angels again on Saturday, March 29, with the first pitch scheduled for 2:10 p.m.
