Chicago police are investigating a series of violent incidents that unfolded across the city in the early hours of Sunday, July 26, 2026. The events left multiple people dead and others critically injured in separate neighborhoods.
Mass Shooting in Humboldt Park
Gunfire erupted around 2:09 a.m. during a large outdoor gathering in the 900 block of North Central Park Avenue in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side. Six people were wounded in the shooting.
According to police, a 35-year-old man was shot multiple times and transported to Illinois Masonic Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. A 36-year-old man, also shot multiple times, was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition. 
Four other victims were listed in good condition: a 33-year-old man shot in the finger and treated at Humboldt Park Health; a 39-year-old man shot twice in the thigh and taken to Stroger Hospital; a 46-year-old woman shot once in the back and twice in the foot, also treated at Stroger Hospital; and a 34-year-old woman shot once in the hip and transported to Mount Sinai Hospital.
Area Four detectives are investigating the shooting. No arrests have been announced.
Fatal Crash After Police Chase on Southwest Side
Minutes later, around 2:16 a.m., a high-speed pursuit ended in a deadly crash on the Southwest Side. A pickup truck plunged off the Cicero Avenue bridge in the 6900 block of South Cicero Avenue and struck a train boxcar.
Three occupants, two men and one woman, were pronounced dead at the scene. A fourth occupant, a woman, was transported to Advocate Christ Hospital in critical condition.
Police said the incident began when officers responded to a report of a person pointing a gun from a moving vehicle. Chicago police located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled. Officers briefly pursued the truck before terminating the chase for safety reasons.
Illinois State Police later spotted a vehicle matching the description in the 5500 block of South Cicero Avenue and attempted to stop it. The driver initially complied but then fled at a high rate of speed before the truck left the roadway and crashed into the train car.
Deadly Shooting in Roseland
Earlier that morning, at approximately 12:49 a.m., two women were shot in the Roseland neighborhood on the South Side. The incident occurred in the 10400 block of South Michigan Avenue.
Police said the victims were standing outside with a group of people when someone pulled out a gun and opened fire. A 24-year-old woman was shot multiple times and later pronounced dead at the University of Chicago Medical Center. A 20-year-old woman, also shot several times, was taken to Roseland Hospital and listed in good condition.
Area Two detectives are investigating. No suspect information has been released.
Serious Dog Attack on the West Side
In a separate incident around 5:38 a.m., two people were seriously injured in a dog attack in the 4200 block of West Cullerton Street on the West Side.
A 15-year-old girl and a 25-year-old woman were attacked by a dog inside a home. Both suffered multiple puncture wounds and lacerations. Officers arrived and shot the animal. The victims were transported to Stroger Hospital, where both were listed in serious condition. Animal control later removed the dog from the scene.
Further details about the circumstances of the attack were not immediately available.
Detectives continue to investigate all four incidents. Authorities have not announced any arrests in connection with the shootings or the chase.
