The Consulate General of the Republic of Serbia in Chicago has officially welcomed its new Consul General – Dr. Marko Nikolić. His appointment is expected to strengthen ties between Serbia and its diaspora across the United States.
Dr. Nikolić was born in Belgrade. He earned his undergraduate and doctoral degrees from the University of Belgrade’s Faculty of Philosophy, specializing in the sociology of religion. His Ph.D. focused on relations between the Serbian Orthodox and Roman Catholic Churches after the Second Vatican Council. He also completed a master’s program in Rome and holds a degree from the Faculty of Political Sciences in Belgrade.
Prior to his appointment in Chicago, he served in Serbia’s Office for Cooperation with Churches and Religious Communities and the Ministry of Justice. He participated in numerous interdepartmental government groups and is the author of two books and over 30 academic papers and articles.

Dr. Nikolić officially assumed his post several days before Easter. On Easter Sunday, April 20, he attended the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Chicago, officiated by Bishop Serafim of Kostajnica. The following day, he visited the New Gracanica Monastery, where he joined the Easter luncheon with Metropolitan Longin.
His presence among the faithful during the most sacred Orthodox holiday sent a clear message: the Serbian state stands with its diaspora.
