Ceremony Held at the “Vasa Čarapić” Barracks
The Day of the Special Purpose Military Police Detachment “Kobre” was marked at the “Vasa Čarapić” barracks in Belgrade, along with the ceremonial opening of a newly built facility intended for members of this unit. The ceremony was attended by Serbian President and Supreme Commander of the Serbian Armed Forces Aleksandar Vučić, Defense Minister Bratislav Gašić, and Chief of the General Staff General Milan Mojsilović.
Vučić Praises the Unit’s Professionalism and Responsibility
Addressing those present, President Vučić emphasized the importance of the new facility and the role of members of this elite unit: “We built this thanks to your will, your desire, your professionalism, and your responsibility. I am surrounded by your members, and every day, in a way, we share both good and bad. I must tell other people in Serbia that in other parts of the system I have not seen the kind of responsibility, professionalism, and seriousness that I have seen in you, members of the ‘Kobre’. You have never been late anywhere, you were able to wait even in the most difficult weather, react quickly, and find your way in difficult situations. Thank you for all your effort, work, and commitment.”
He particularly emphasized the unit’s engagement in crisis situations: “I thank you endlessly for that, and that is one of the reasons why you enjoy so much respect from the state leadership and why we have invested so much money in these facilities.”

More Soldiers and Specialists for a Stronger Security System
Speaking about the future of the unit, the president said: “Kobre” will have to take in more soldiers and more specialists, so that there are more of you, because that additionally strengthens our security system and helps us preserve stability and peace in our country.”
He also underlined Serbia’s commitment to military neutrality: “That is why we will continue to invest in you, so that every child can be safe in our country, so that every mother can be safe in our country, and so that we can secure a safe future for each of us. We must be equipped more strongly, better, and more powerfully than others in the region, because we are the only ones that are essentially militarily neutral. Everyone else either belongs or wants to belong to a certain military alliance. We are the only ones who want to protect our own sky and our own land. We are the only ones who want to decide our own destiny. And that is why I do not see this money spent as a cost, but as an investment in the country’s security, safety, and stability.”
New Facility as a Legacy for Future Generations

The unit commander, Brigadier General Darko Đošić, said that the new facility brings a significant improvement in working conditions: “This building represents the endowment of all people who were or are now part of the unit, and it will remain as a legacy for future generations. Together with my members, I want to express respect, appreciation, and gratitude to the state and military leadership, especially to you, Mr. President. I expect that in the coming period we will be stronger and more numerous, equipped with the most modern weapons, technology, and equipment. Regardless of challenges and pressures, we will work more, we will be better, more disciplined, and more responsible, and we will carry out our tasks and duties as we have done so far.”
Training Demonstration and the Legacy of 1978
After the ceremony, the Serbian president toured the newly built facility and attended a demonstration of the unit members’ training.
The Day of the “Kobre” unit is marked in memory of April 14, 1978, when the Military Police Department for Counterterrorist Operations was formed, whose tradition this unit continues.
