A large Wrigley Field fan fight broke out in the bleachers on Monday night during the first game of the Crosstown Classic between the Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox.
Video circulating on social media shows several fans exchanging punches in the right-field bleachers as other spectators attempted to move away from the confrontation. Security personnel and Chicago police eventually intervened and broke up the fight.
The incident occurred during the eighth inning of the game on August 17. Photographs from the stadium also captured the confrontation, showing fans wearing Cubs and White Sox apparel involved in the altercation. At least one person appeared to be bloodied during the fight. 
It remains unclear what initially caused the Wrigley Field fan fight. FOX 32 Chicago reported Tuesday morning that authorities had not yet provided information about possible arrests or charges related to the incident. A later report by TMZ stated that three people had been arrested, but at the time this article was published, that information had not been confirmed by Chicago police or other relevant local sources.
The fight took place during one of Chicago baseball’s best-known rivalries. This year’s Crosstown Classic has attracted particular attention because both teams remain in contention for postseason play late in the season.
Fight in the Stands, Drama on the Field
While the Wrigley Field fan fight drew attention in the bleachers, on the field, the Cubs defeated the White Sox 7–5 in 10 innings after a dramatic finish. Pete Crow-Armstrong hit a two-run walk-off home run, his 30th homer of the season. Combined with his 31 stolen bases, the performance gave him consecutive seasons with at least 30 home runs and 30 stolen bases.
The White Sox had taken a 5–4 lead in the eighth inning on Andrew Benintendi’s two-run home run, but Nico Hoerner tied the game with an RBI single in the ninth before Crow-Armstrong ended it in the tenth.
The Wrigley Field fan fight remained one of the incidents drawing attention after the game, while the Crosstown Classic continues tonight at Wrigley Field, with another game scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
