Chicago’s Serbian community will pay tribute to General Ratko Mladic with a memorial service on Sunday, September 6, at St. Nicholas Church in Lyons.

The day will begin with the Divine Liturgy at 9 a.m., followed immediately by the memorial service, according to an announcement from the church.

St. Nicholas Church is located at 4315 Joliet Avenue, Lyons, Illinois 60534.

Mladic’s funeral will take place in Belgrade on Monday, September 7, at Topcider Cemetery.

Before the burial, his coffin will lie in repose at St. Luke Church in Kosutnjak from 7 a.m. until noon, giving mourners an opportunity to pay their respects. A funeral procession will then depart for Topcider Cemetery.

Darko Mladic said at a news conference that the burial is expected to begin at around 1:30 or 2 p.m. The exact time will depend on the pace of the funeral procession.

He also called on everyone to refrain from provocations or attempts to disrupt the funeral, allowing the family and mourners to say goodbye to Ratko Mladic with dignity and in accordance with tradition.
