Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia Dragan Sutanovac spent the weekend in Illinois and Indiana as part of a visit organized by the Consulate General in Chicago.
Together with Consul General Marko Nikolic, he attended a Divine Liturgy at St. Sava Monastery in Libertyville, served by His Eminence Metropolitan Longin. They also visited New Gracanica Monastery in Third Lake, the seat of the Metropolitanate, as well as St. Basil of Ostrog Church in Lake Forest, where the Taste of Serbia festival drew a large number of members of the Serbian community.
The ambassador then traveled with colleagues from the Embassy and Consulate to Indiana, where he attended Srbijada 2026, one of the largest traditional gatherings of the Serbian diaspora in North America. 
During the visit, the ambassador met and spoke with members of the Serbian community who had traveled from different parts of the United States.
“The Serbian community in America is an important part of what makes the relationship between Serbia and the United States strong. It is up to us to preserve and strengthen those ties and leave them even stronger for the generations to come. I thank Metropolitan Longin, our clergy and everyone we met for their hospitality. When you are thousands of miles away from Serbia, days and encounters like these have a special value. It is good to be among our own people,” Sutanovac wrote on his Instagram account.
