The traditional Chicago Kotlićijada was held yesterday on the grounds of Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral on Redwood Drive in Chicago.
Once again this year, the event drew a large number of visitors, and for good reason. The specialties and delicacies prepared by Kotlićijada participants are difficult to find not only in our restaurants and at similar events in Chicago, but anywhere in the United States.
It was a festival filled with joy, laughter, and the tempting aroma of dishes cooked in kettles drifting through the air. Once again, it brought our community together and showed how our traditions are preserved.
Visitors who return to Kotlićijada year after year spend days getting ready for the wide variety of dishes prepared by the competitors, because it would be a real shame not to try everything simply because they filled up too quickly.
There was a little bit of everything — goulash and paprikaš, Serbian wedding cabbage and sarma, beans, fish soup, as well as kačamak, priganice, pies, pancakes, and, of course, roast meat.
The expert jury named the Banja Luka team the winner of this year’s Kotlićijada, awarding them a well-deserved first place.
