Orthodox Christians Celebrate Easter – The Greatest Christian Holiday

The Serbian Orthodox Church, along with Orthodox believers around the world, celebrated Easter today, marking the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, the core of the Christian faith.

Easter, known as the Feast of Feasts, is considered the culmination of the liturgical year. On this day, Christians celebrate Christ’s victory over death, a moment believed to have brought eternal life and redemption to humanity through His suffering, crucifixion, and resurrection.

Easter liturgies were held in Orthodox churches across the globe. In Chicago, at the Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral, the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy was led by Bishop Serafim of Kostajnica, joined by the local clergy. Worshippers welcomed the holiday with prayer, the ringing of church bells, and the traditional Easter greeting, “Christ is Risen – Truly He is Risen.”

The newly appointed Consul General of the Republic of Serbia in Chicago, Dr. Marko Nikolić, also attended the Easter liturgy. He assumed his post just a few days ago.

The day was especially joyful for children, who spent time with their families after the service. One of the most cherished traditions was the egg tapping game, using Easter eggs that had been blessed by Bishop Serafim.

Beyond being a celebration of faith and hope, Easter also serves as a day of family gatherings and preserving Serbian cultural traditions.
