A charity luncheon was held today at the Cathedral Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Chicago, where donations were collected for the completion of the Saint Mardarije Center.
Charity Luncheon in Honor of Saint Mardarije
The center is being built as part of Saint Sava Monastery in Libertyville, which for more than one hundred years has stood as a sacred covenant and a spiritual refuge for Serbs in North America. It was founded by Saint Mardarije, who carried bricks on his own back in order to lay the foundations of our existence in these lands.
The Saint Mardarije Center will be a modern space where our children will learn about their faith, language, and roots.
Liturgy and Call for Donations
The charity luncheon was preceded by a Holy Hierarchical Liturgy served by His Grace Bishop Serafim together with the clergy. Dr. Marko Nikolić, Consul General of the Republic of Serbia in Chicago, also attended both the liturgy and the donor luncheon.
Approximately $75,000 was raised on this occasion, significantly accelerating the completion of the St. Mardarije Center.
