Song, dance, gusle, accordion, tamburica, bagpipes and flute will once again bring the Serbian community together at Ognjište 2026, a traditional music gathering to be held Sunday, October 11, at St. Nicholas Church hall in Lyons.
The event is organized by the Youth Department Ministry of the Serbian Orthodox Diocese of New Gracanica-Midwestern America, with the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop of New Gracanica-Chicago and Metropolitan of Midwestern America Longin.
The program begins at 5:30 p.m., and this year’s Ognjište will once again bring together performers who preserve Serbian spiritual and folk traditions through music, song and dance.
From Children’s Choirs to Gusle and Tamburica
The audience will hear different sounds and generations of performers throughout the evening. The program will feature the Oko Sokolovo Folk Ensemble, the St. Sava Children’s Choir from Milwaukee, the Men’s Choir of the St. Sava School of Theology in Libertyville and the St. Sava Academy Children’s Choir from Chicago.
The Traditional Music Ensemble Zlatni Vez will also perform, while Miloš Šegrt will present the sound of the gusle. Protodeacon Jovan Aničić will also take part in the program.
A special part of the evening will be dedicated to traditional instruments. Zoran Miletić and Stefan Filipović will perform on accordion, while the Prazna Flaša tamburica orchestra will add the sounds of bagpipes and flute to the program.
