The Association of Krajina Serbs “Prelo” celebrated its patron saint’s day, honoring St. Luke the Apostle and Evangelist, yesterday at St. John the Baptist Church in Bellwood, a Chicago suburb.
The traditional slava service was officiated by the Rev. Dragan Goronjić. Following the liturgy and ceremonial cutting of the slava bread, association members continued the celebration with a luncheon. This year’s hosts were Ljuban and Mira Vučković, who prepared a generous holiday meal.
Tatjana Telić, Consul General of Bosnia and Herzegovina, also attended the celebration. She congratulated the hosts on the holiday and wished the association continued success.
Certificates of appreciation were also presented to distinguished members of the association and to Father Dragan Goronjić for their “Long-standing contributions to the Association’s work and selfless assistance in preserving the traditions and cultural heritage of Krajina Serbs and the Serbian people in America.”
The Association of Krajina Serbs “Prelo” held its annual meeting the same day, at which Suzana Tesla was elected president. She thus became one of the first women to lead a Serbian organization in Chicago.
The association’s Board of Directors also underwent changes that brought younger members into its leadership. Five new members between the ages of 20 and 25 joined the board.
