Visitors to Nušićijada can now interact with a virtual version of Branislav Nušić through the festival’s official website (https://nusicijadaivanjica.rs/).
As part of an initiative to expand the festival’s digital content, Nušićijada has introduced an AI-powered chatbot designed to provide information about the life and work of one of Serbia’s most celebrated playwrights and satirists, as well as about the festival dedicated to his legacy.
Smartgorithm DOO Developed the AI Chatbot
The chatbot was developed by Smartgorithm DOO (https://smartgorithm.ai/) and created by Milena Šović, an AI engineer specializing in the application of artificial intelligence. Smartgorithm DOO donated the system to Nušićijada as part of its support for the festival and efforts to preserve and promote Serbian cultural heritage. 
From Nušić’s Work to the Festival Program
Visitors can ask the chatbot about Nušić’s life, literary and theatrical works, and other aspects of his career. The system can also answer questions about Nušićijada, including its history, program, events, and practical information for visitors.
The project is part of a broader series of initiatives by Šović exploring the use of artificial intelligence in the preservation and presentation of cultural heritage. Her previous projects include a virtual Nikola Tesla (www.nikolatesla.live) and several educational chatbots developed around Serbian culture, language, and history.
With the introduction of the chatbot on its official website, Nušićijada becomes one of the first literary festivals in Serbia to offer visitors an interactive AI experience centered on both a writer and the festival dedicated to his work. Rather than functioning solely as an information service, the chatbot is designed to simulate elements of Branislav Nušić’s persona and manner of speaking, allowing users to explore his life and work through conversation.
Development of the Chatbot Will Continue
Development of the project will continue. Smartgorithm DOO and the Association “Team for Information, Culture and the Development of Democracy – Media Tim Ivanjica” will collaborate on further improvements to the Branislav Nušić chatbot and explore additional ways it can be used to present Nušić’s work and Nušićijada’s content.
Artificial Intelligence as a Tool for Cultural Heritage
The project also illustrates a growing area of AI application beyond business and technology: the use of interactive systems to preserve, interpret, and present cultural heritage. In this context, artificial intelligence can provide new ways for audiences to access cultural and historical material and interact with it through digital platforms.
