Srbijada 2026, one of the largest traditional gatherings of the Serbian diaspora in North America, officially opened today in Portage, Indiana.
The opening ceremony was followed by the introduction of teams that will compete throughout the weekend. Friday evening continued with live music, food, drinks and time for players, families and visitors to socialize.
This year’s host is FK Republika Srpska, with matches taking place at the Indiana Elite Soccer Complex, located at 2945 Samuelson Rd, Portage, IN 46368. 
Young Players From Kosovska Mitrovica Are Special Guests
Among the guests drawing particular attention this year are 22 young soccer players from OFK DIF Kosovska Mitrovica. They will compete in the tournament and also have a chance to spend time with their peers and members of Serbian communities from the United States and Canada.
Their presence gives Srbijada 2026 added emotional significance as organizers welcome visitors from across North America.
A Tradition Dating Back to 1993
The first Srbijada was held in 1993 in Windsor, Ontario. Over more than three decades, the event has grown beyond a soccer tournament and become one of the most important annual gatherings of Serbs in North America.
This year’s competition includes Open, Over 30, Over 40 and Over 50 divisions, along with a tournament for younger players.
Main Competition Continues Saturday and Sunday
On Saturday, September 5, matches begin at 8:30 a.m. and continue until 6 p.m. Food and drinks will be available from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., while live music runs from noon to 11 p.m.
On Sunday, September 6, games are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Food and drinks will again be available from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., with live music from noon to 11 p.m.
The trophy presentation is scheduled for 7 p.m. Sunday.
Live Music and Official After-Parties
The weekend also includes a live entertainment program featuring the Neša Veljković Orchestra, Jasmina Ilić, Saša Minić and Čedo Kabić.
Saturday’s and Sunday’s official after-party with DJ Spaz will take place at Buddy & Pal’s Schererville, located at: 340 East U.S. Hwy 30, Schererville, IN 46375.
